Privacy Policy
Last updated: 10 August 2026
GlobiSport (“GlobiSport”, “we”, “us”) is committed to protecting your personal information. This policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, how we use and safeguard it, and the rights you have under the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA). By using the GlobiSport mobile app or web platform, you agree to the practices described here.
1. Who we are (Responsible Party)
GlobiSport is operated by Globisport (Pty) Ltd (registration number 2023/583875/07), of 81 5th Road, Kew, Johannesburg, Gauteng, 2090, South Africa — the responsible party for the personal information processed through the platform. Our Information Officer can be reached at info@globisport.com.
2. Information we collect
- Account and profile data: name, date of birth, email address, sport, role (athlete, coach, professional, institution, guardian), height, weight, nationality, biography, social handles, and profile photo.
- Identity verification data: to verify athletes and coaches we process a South African ID number and images of an identity document and a live selfie. We retain only the last four digits of the ID number permanently; the full number and biometric images are held only for the short window needed to complete verification and are then deleted.
- Booking and payment data: sessions you book, the coach or service involved, amounts, and payment status. Card and banking details are handled by our payment processor (PayFast) and are never stored by GlobiSport.
- Content you create: posts, messages, reviews, opportunities, events, and community activity.
- Location data: if you enable it, your approximate location to find nearby coaches. You can decline this at any time.
- Technical data: device information, app version, and diagnostic logs used to keep the service secure and reliable.
3. Children and guardian consent
GlobiSport is used by minors. Where a user is under 18, an account must be linked to a verified parent or guardian, and the processing of the minor’s personal information is carried out with the consent of, and under the supervision of, that guardian. A guardian may review, correct, restrict, or request deletion of their child’s information at any time. We do not knowingly make a minor’s date of birth, contact details, or precise location publicly discoverable without guardian consent.
4. Why we process your information (lawful basis)
- To create and operate your account and deliver the platform’s features (performance of a contract).
- To verify identity and protect the safety of a community that includes children (legitimate interest and, for minors, guardian consent).
- To process bookings and payments.
- To keep the service secure, prevent fraud, and comply with our legal obligations.
- To communicate service updates and, where you have consented, relevant notifications.
5. Sharing your information
We share personal information only where necessary: with coaches or athletes you choose to interact with, with our payment processor (PayFast) to complete transactions, and with infrastructure providers who host and secure the platform on our behalf under confidentiality obligations. We do not sell your personal information.
6. Storage, retention, and cross-border transfer
We retain account and profile information for 3 years after account deletion, unless a longer period is required by law. Full ID numbers and biometric verification images are deleted shortly after verification is completed or fails. Some infrastructure providers may process data outside South Africa; where this happens we take steps to ensure a comparable level of protection as required by POPIA.
7. How we protect your information
We use access controls, encryption in transit, row-level database security, and strict server-side authorisation to protect your information. Sensitive verification data is additionally restricted and retained for the minimum period necessary. No system is perfectly secure, but we work continually to safeguard your data.
8. Your rights
Under POPIA you have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you.
- Request correction of information that is inaccurate or incomplete.
- Request deletion of your information (erasure), subject to legal retention obligations.
- Object to or restrict certain processing, and withdraw consent where processing relies on it.
- Request the transfer of your personal information to another provider (data portability).
- Lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator of South Africa.
To exercise any of these rights, contact info@globisport.com. We aim to respond within 21 days.
9. Cookies and analytics
The web platform uses only essential cookies required to keep you signed in and to secure your session, plus cookie-less, privacy-preserving analytics to understand how the site is used. We do not use marketing or advertising cookies. If this changes, we will update this policy and, where required, ask for your consent first.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated through the app or platform. The “last updated” date above reflects the current version.
